The iPhone13 Pro - Discovery Bay

I sat here on the back deck in Discovery Bay, on a rainy morning, drinking my cup of coffee, when the rain suddenly stopped. A short time later the sun peaked its rays out and kissed the clouds with golden light while a rainbow appeared and the geese started to fly. Not having my Canon 5Drs with me at that moment caused me more than a bit of grief.
Not wanting to miss this moment, I immediately grabbed my iPhone and grabbed this image. This situation got me thinking about the the quality of the iPhone camera.
Now I am, by all accounts, an Apple fan boy. I have spent quite a bit of time behind the recent iPhones and still cannot get my head around how good these cameras really are. How can so much functionally be packed into this small form factor? How can we all of a sudden have a very capable digital camera always at our fingertips?
The 12MP iPhone 13 Pro camera is, in a lot of ways on par with my 1st generation Canon 5D that I paid $3,000.00 for when it was initially released (with the exception of the L glass of course). The ability to shoot in RAW camera format, the new 3X optical zoom, expanded wide angle functionality and the ability to do macro photography, make the iPhone13 Pro a very capable camera.

Today’s image is an example of this camera’s ability. This was taken in digital RAW with the 3x optical zoom which worked out to 77mm. The auto features of this camera set it at f2.8 1/170s with an ISO of 32. While it’s not quite as sharp as the same image taken with a prime L Canon lens, it still shows the capabilities of these point and shoot cameras.

I took this image on an early morning in Discovery Bay, CA and edited it in Adobe Lightroom.
